Brookfield Asset Management has announced the appointment of Ron Kalifa as its new vice chairman and head of financial infrastructure investments. In this role, Kalifa will spearhead the asset manager's efforts to target opportunities in the digital assets and services sector, which are fundamental to the financial ecosystem.

Kalifa brings a wealth of experience to his new position, having previously worked alongside Brookfield Chairman Mark Carney at the Bank of England. Currently, Kalifa serves as a senior independent director on the court of directors of the Bank of England, as well as the chairman of Middle Eastern payments business Network International. Prior to these roles, he held the position of chief executive at payments platform Worldpay for over a decade.

Mark Carney, who served as governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and governor of the Bank of England from 2013 until 2020, was named vice chairman of Brookfield in 2020. Since then, he has assumed the role of chairman for the Canadian company after its spin-off from parent company Brookfield last year.
